With an extended x20 zoom starting at a wide 25mm, replacing the Canon PowerShot SX230 (compare ) which had a narrower 28mm lens and a smaller x14 zoom range, the new SX260 joins the prestigious x20 club, populated until now only by the Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS20 (compare ) and the FujiFilm FinePix F750EXR (compare ) & FujiFilm FinePix F770EXR (compare ).

For the sake of fairness, x18 zooms are also allowed in the club - thus welcoming the Nikon Coolpix S9300 (compare ) as well.

Another major change from the SX230 to the SX260 is the use of Canon's new Digic 5 processor, coupled with a similar BackSide-Illuminated CMOS sensor, which have proved to provide cleaner high-ISO results and excellent image-quality in general.

Other changes between the SX230 and SX260 are relatively minor, including a nice small grip, an improved behaviour of the pop-up flash (which pops only when you need it), and some additions under the hood.

See this comparison of all compact-zooms with x18 zooms and above.
